Coastal walk along an astoundingly rugged part of the westside to a bay with bright blue seas surrounded by high cliffs. Great views of Foula to the west.
This walk can be done as a circular walk, or as a direct walk between Dale of Walls and Sandness via the Huxter water mills.
OS Map: Shetland Mainland Central (OS EXPLORER 467)
Once you reach the beach at Dale of Walls there are areas along the side of the track for parking. If you do not wish to drive along the track there is a layby just before the track starts.
- There are sometimes sheep & ponies
- Steep cliffs
- Fences with stiles
Some areas of this walk can be very boggy, waterproof walking boots are recommended.
Follow the coast north to Deepdale and return using a more direct route through the fields. There are marker posts in the fields for the direct route to Deepdale.
Once at Deepdale you can continue along the coast to Sandness.
